Recently a nuge update was released for Star Trek Online, including better functionality to the exchange, updated 'aid the planet' missions and a 3-setting difficulty slider. Higher difficulty will give you much more of a fight and a chance for better loot, but also the risk of injuring yourself, your bridge officers or your ship.
